Battle Cat is Prince Adam’s pet tiger Cringer, who transforms into an armored, lion-hearted fighting companion whenever Adam becomes He-Man. The Cringer form is timid and cowardly, the Battle Cat form fearless and aggressive; the duality mirrors Adam/He-Man and was introduced by Filmation when the cartoon began.
The toy released by Mattel in 1982 came with green-and-orange armor and a removable saddle, presenting the figure as He-Man’s mount. The Filmation cartoon added the Cringer identity and the transformation gag, which became a fixed part of the mythos. Stephen Root’s voicing of both forms in Revelation is widely regarded as the standout vocal performance of that continuation.
