Teela is one of He-Man’s closest allies and the Captain of the Eternian Royal Guard. She was raised by Man-At-Arms, who took her in after her father’s death when she was an infant. What she does not know across most of the Filmation continuity is that she is biologically the daughter of the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, who relinquished her to Man-At-Arms so that the child could grow up away from the burden of inherited destiny.
She and Prince Adam grew up together. Teela frequently finds Adam exasperating, mistaking his diplomatic and pacifist tendencies for cowardice. She is unaware that he is He-Man, and her teasing of Adam is one of the running comedic threads of the 1983 cartoon.
The Sorceress eventually confirms the relationship and the prophecy across multiple continuities. In the 2002 MYP series, Teela begins to suspect the truth before it is revealed to her. In the 2021 Revelation continuation, Teela briefly takes up the role of Sorceress before passing it on, and her relationship with the rest of the cast is reframed around her quest for the truth about her origin and Adam’s secret.
