A Trollan wizard who serves as court magician to the royal family of Eternia. On his home world he was a master of magic; on Eternia the rules of magic are different, and his spells frequently misfire.
Orko is a Trollan, a member of a race of small, floating, hat-wearing magic-users whose powers work differently in their home dimension than in Eternia. On Trolla he is reputedly a competent wizard. On Eternia his spells regularly misfire to comic effect, and his role in the Filmation series is largely that of the comic relief and the children’s surrogate in stories aimed at the cartoon’s young target audience.
Beyond the comedic role he is genuinely loyal, occasionally brave, and one of the small circle who know that Prince Adam is He-Man. The 2002 MYP series gave him a more serious presence and added a backstory tying him to a tragedy on Trolla. The Revelation continuation gave him a quietly affecting subplot about a Trollan inheritance.
The character was unique to Filmation rather than the toyline, and the 1984 Orko figure was a Mattel addition based on the cartoon’s success rather than the other way around.
