The Heart of a Giant

Official Synopsis sourced from Wiki Grayskull and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA). Composed for heman.org 2026-05-18 Synopsis

Man-At-Arms instructs Prince Adam and Orko to look for Salk Weed in the Evergreen Forest. Cringer tries to return to the Palace on his own when stormy weather looms. None of them are aware that they are being watched by a giant figure. Orko finds some of the weed and collects it, but is startled by the giant. He bumps into a tree trunk, knocks himself out, and is picked up by a pair of oversized hands.

Once the storm has passed, Adam and Duncan are growing worried about Orko. The giant man brings Orko to them, as well as Orko's bag filled with weed, then leaves without uttering a word. Orko wakes up and tells the others he saw a giant monster. Adam wants to know the identity of the giant. Duncan surmises that he could be either a spy for Skeletor, or someone who's in trouble. Adam transforms himself into He-Man and Cringer into Battle Cat to go look for him.

Nearby, the Keeper has also been searching for the giant, whom he intends to capture and add him to the flying sideshow aboard his airship. He almost caught up with his prey, before the thunderstorm jammed his equipment. The Keeper is elated when his sensors pick up his quarry. The heroic warriors spot the giant at the same time. When the giant is caught in a tractor beam, He-Man manages to grab on to it as it retracts into the airship. But when the Keeper uses a vacuum attached to a tentacle to capture Orko, He-Man lets go of the tractor beam. Unfortunately, he is unable to stop the Keeper from taking Orko and the giant. Impressed with He-Man's strength, the keeper releases the monstrous Scorpio to test He-Man's prowess. Scorpio grabs Man-At-Arms with one of it's claws and shoots laster beams from the tip of it's tail. He-Man frees Duncan and must find a way to defeat the creature without hurting it.

Orko and the giant find themselves locked in a cage. When Orko decides to escape, the creature warns Orko about the energy bars. He explains that he hasn't spoken in many years, having been ridiculed and feared because of his great size. He fled the cities to live as a hermit in the Evergreen Forest with the animals. The giant introduces himself as Cambro. Orko manages to slip through the bars by turning his body flat for a short period. He turns off the bars and releases his new friend. Cambro has overheard the Keeper saying he was heading to Avion. Orko suspects that Stratos is the Keepers next target. Cambro says he can turn an intercom into a long-range radio to contact Orko's friends. Orko produces the tool Cambro needs from his hat.

Outside, He-Man diverts a river in order to wash away Scorpio and put some distance between himself and the creature. Man-At-Arms receives a call from Orko on his Communicator and is told to head for Avion. He-Man tells Man-At-Arms to take the Wind Raider while he rides Battle Cat to their destination. At Avion, Stratos spots the Keeper's Airship approaching and flies up to take a look. The Keeper dispatches a grappling cord to capture the ruler of Avion, but He-Man and Battle Cat arrive to help him. He-Man jumps up, grabs the cable and snaps it in two to free Stratos. With no time to explain what is going on, He-Man asks Stratos to carry him up to the ship, and jumps onto Stratos' back.

Inside the ship, Orko and Cambro are unable to find an exit. Stratos deposits He-Man on one of the ship's wings. When he spots a flock of Bird Men coming to the rescue, Stratos tries to warn them to go back while He-Man tears a hole in the side of the airship and enters it. The Keeper tries to capture the Bird Men, but is thwarted by Man-At-Arms shooting laser fire from the Raider. Inside the ship, He-Man is grabbed by computer activated vines, but quickly frees himself. He then starts to destroy all the cages holding the creatures in the Keeper's menagerie. The Keeper arrives on the scene and begins to cower as his former captives angrilly surround him. Cambro steps forward and tells the other creatures not to harm the Keeper. To have their freedom back should be enough.

Later, outside the ship, Cambro reveals he graduated from the Science Academy at age 16, but at 20, his great size was so frightening to others, that he decided to retreat from the human world. Man-At-Arms offers Cambro a job as his lab assistant, and Cambro admits he has never experience such kindness in all his life.

Morals by He-Man closing message, original Filmation broadcast

**Orko:** "Today I learned something about judging other people by the way they look. Just because Cambro looded different, I was frightened of him and thought he was some kind of monster. But he turned out to be kind, gentle... and smart. I hope you'll try to remember not to judge people by the way they look and not to make fun of them if they look different. People deserve to be judged on their words and especially on their actions. From now on, I'm going to give them a chance. I hope you will, too. Bye!"

Notes of Interest

  1. Behind the scenes: Script was approved June 16, 1983 and final script revision took place June 22, 1983. Cambro's voice (performed by John Erwin) uses the same inflections as monster movies star Boris Karloff, albeit much deeper.
  2. Continuity: Cambro's character model is reused as Tingler in Monster on the Mountain. The character model of The Keeper would be reused as Lord Todd (in disguise) in The Gamesman. A near identical version of The Keeper's ship appears in One for All. The Keeper's creatures are Bakkull and a Fish man from Teela's Quest; a Slotto from Evil-Lyn's Plot; a Cavern Monster from Reign of the Monster; Gark from Orko's Favorite Uncle; Gorgon from The Defection; an Ice Hacker from The Dragon's Gift and Tik Tok and Zalt from Orko's Missing Magic.
  3. More continuity: The animated sequence of He-Man punching a hole in the hull of the ship was animated by Tom Sito and would be used again in the She-Ra: Princess of Power episode She-Ra Makes a Promise, which he directed. The first half of the animated sequence that shows He-Man punching animated by Tom Sito will be used again in the episode The Time Wheel.
