King Grayskull is the 2002 MYP reboot’s retroactive answer to a question the franchise had never fully addressed: why is the castle and the power called Grayskull? In the MYP continuity, Grayskull was an ancient Eternian barbarian-king who wielded the Sword of Power against the Evil Horde, sealed them away at the cost of his own life, and bequeathed his power to a line that eventually descends to He-Man. The Sorceress preserves Grayskull’s power within the castle until a worthy heir can be found.
The character has been preserved across every later continuity. The 2021 Revelation continuation features Grayskull’s spirit in Subternia.
