FILMATION - 1983

Hunt for He-Man

Official Synopsis sourced from Wiki Grayskull and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA). Composed for heman.org 2026-05-18 Synopsis

He-Man is very weak and vulnerable after falling into a pit of poisonous tar. When a boy and his father find him, they must decide whether to help He-Man, or offer him to Skeletor in exchange for money. He-Man, Cringer and Drak (unusually implicitly) tell viewers having friends makes them richer than money can and to resist the temptation of thinking otherwise.

Morals by He-Man closing message, original Filmation broadcast

**Drak:** "I shudder to think that I almost betrayed you, He-Man, in favor of Skeletor." **He-Man:** "Well, but you made the right decision, that's what counts" **Drak:** "The thought of all those riches was awfully tempting. On second thought, I'd rather have your friendship, He-Man, Cringer... In fact, knowing you has made me the richest boy in the world." **Cringer:** "And we're much richer for knowing you. \*turns to audience\* Until later."

Notes of Interest

  1. Behind the scenes: Script was approved May 14, 1984 and final script revision took place June 12, 1984. The title card omits the hyphen in He-Man's name, thus spelling it 'He Man'. This episode is unusual in that Cringer is by He-Man's side throughout the episode but is never transformed into Battle-Cat.
  2. Weirder still, none of the Evil Warriors questions why Prince Adam's pet is helping He-man. Well, Trap Jaw and Whiplash can be forgiven...
  3. Continuity: The animated sequence of Prince Adam unsheathing his magic sword will be used again in Revenge is Never Sweet. Skeletor doesn't seem at all concerned that Cringer is helping He-Man instead of Battle Cat. The animation of Cringer leaping over the camera was previously seen in One for All. The animated sequence of He-Man running and diving was previously used in The Defection, Search for the VHO & Jacob and the Widgets.
  4. Animation errors and goofs: When Whiplash uses his tail to activate the freeze ray, Skeletor laughs, but Trap Jaw's voice comes out. Skeletor orders Whiplash to carefully use the freeze-ray to bring down the Wind Raider. However the special effect shown as a red electrical charge. All other times a freeze ray are shown, it is a white beam.
