Princess Adora, twin sister of Prince Adam, was abducted from Eternia as an infant by Hordak and raised on Etheria as a captain of the Horde. Upon learning her true identity she defected and now wields the Sword of Protection to transform into She-Ra, leader of the Great Rebellion against Hordak's tyranny.
She-Ra is Princess Adora, twin sister of Prince Adam. As an infant she was abducted from Eternia by Hordak and raised on the conquered world of Etheria, where she grew up serving the Horde as one of its captains. The 1985 animated film The Secret of the Sword tells the story of her rescue: Adam follows the Sorceress’s guidance to Etheria, gives Adora her own transformation sword (the Sword of Protection), and reveals her true heritage.
After learning the truth Adora joins the Great Rebellion against the Horde, becoming its leader and the most visible champion of the war for Etheria’s freedom. The She-Ra: Princess of Power animated series spent 93 episodes following that war, alongside an extensive Mattel toy line.
The 2018 Netflix reboot, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, kept the core premise but substantially reinvented the character and the rest of the cast, running for five seasons. The 2024 Revolution sequel within the main MOTU continuity reintroduces She-Ra and threads her arc back into the He-Man / Skeletor confrontation.
