Shadow Weaver is the Evil Horde’s principal sorceress and Hordak’s chief magical lieutenant. In the original Filmation She-Ra continuity she serves as Adora’s effective adoptive mentor during her time with the Horde; the Sword of Protection itself is presented as a gift that finally breaks Shadow Weaver’s hold over her.
The 2018 Netflix reboot recast her as the show’s most morally complex figure, with a former identity as the magic-academy student Light Spinner whose pursuit of forbidden power led to her transformation. Lorraine Toussaint’s performance in that show is widely regarded as one of the standout vocal turns of any MOTU continuity.
