Mattel has stopped teasing. The Masters of the Universe Chronicles King Hiss Action Figure is SKU JKN99, it is $33.00, and it goes live on Mattel Creations on September 2 at 9:00am PT. Nine official images went up with it. After two weeks of a tease that would not say a name, we finally get to look at the thing properly!

A note for anyone keeping score. When Mattel dangled an “ancient evil” at Club Grayskull members on August 13, Toy Habits called it as King Hiss. We sat on our hands, because a guess is a guess. The guess was right. Mattel’s own copy now opens with the words “Uncoil an ancient evil”, which is about as close to a wink as a product page gets.

Read the small print, because it is the useful bit

Everyone covering this today has the price and the date. Nobody printed the sentence Mattel put at the bottom of its own listing, and it is the one that decides whether you get one:

From September 2, 2026, at 9:00am PT through September 3, 2026, at 8:59am PT, only Club Grayskull members can buy this item at MattelCreations.com, while supplies last.

So it is a 24 hour members-only door, not a members-only figure. If you are not in the club you are not locked out. You are queued behind everyone who is, for a full day, on a Creations exclusive that will move. The listing also says it cannot ship to Quebec (a strange one, and worth knowing before you plan your morning around it).

Preorder King Hiss at Mattel Creations opens September 2 at 9:00am PT. $33.00, SKU JKN99. Mattel sells this one direct, so there is no affiliate link on it and no retailer alternative to fall back on.

What is actually in the box

He is 6.5 inches with 30 points of articulation. That is a half inch over the Chronicles King Grayskull, which shipped in this same line at the same $33.

The King Hiss figure in human guise beside its accessories on a white background: a cobra-hood snake head with open jaws and fangs, two closed green fists, and two gold and green snake arms, each ending in a snake head with a pink forked tongue.

The full loadout. Product and photography: Mattel.

The swap is the whole point of the character. Mattel has built it as two arms and a head rather than a second body. You get the hooded human face, then the cobra hood goes on and the snake arms slide over. That leaves three snake heads on the finished figure, one at the neck and one on each arm. Every one of them has an articulating jaw and a removable tongue. For a $33 figure that is a genuinely silly amount of engineering, and I am not going to complain about it.

The body underneath carries a snakeskin texture rather than smooth plastic. The belt and chest plate are that dull pewter silver, and the lower legs are wrapped in cream bandaging. Mattel says the packaging includes an insert so you can pose him against a backdrop, which is the same display trick the line used last time.

The back of the King Hiss window box, with painted art of the figure over a lava field, a green moon behind him, and a printed bio panel headed King Hiss, Dreadful Disguised Leader of the Snake Men.

The box back, where the good stuff is printed. Product and photography: Mattel.

Mattel wrote the last figure into this one

The bio panel on the back of the box reads: “King Hiss may be a powerful being, but he is trapped by King Grayskull in a void of time for centuries, giving this gruesome leader eons to plot his revenge against the Eternians and control the planet.”

Now read that against what came before it. The previous Chronicles figure on Creations was King Grayskull, SKU JKN98. Mattel has shipped the jailer and then the prisoner, back to back, and printed the connection on the packaging. That is not flavour text. That is a line being built in order, and it makes the next slot on the Chronicles calendar a lot more interesting than it looked yesterday.

Where he sits next to the ones you already own

We have three other King Hiss figures in the archive and none of them do what this one does. The Classics Serpentine King Hiss is the full serpent build. The Classics Battle Armor King Hiss is the armoured variant. The Origins Turtles of Grayskull King Hiss is the crossover deluxe. This is the first time the line has given us the disguise and the reveal in one box at this scale.

One thing we cannot tell you is how many there are. Mattel never publishes quantities on Creations drops. The listing says only “while supplies last”, with purchase limits “subject to change at the sole discretion of Mattel”. Treat 9:00am PT on the 2nd as the deadline, not the start of a leisurely window.
