Icon Heroes built their MOTU statue programme around small-scale, animation-accurate pieces that filled a gap nobody else was working in. While Sideshow, Tweeterhead, and Pop Culture Shock chased the high-end painted-statue collector with eighteen-inch maquettes at $700 to $1,500 price points, Icon Heroes aimed at the mid-range collector who wanted a Filmation-style figure at a desk-display scale.
The He-Man piece is the centerpiece of that programme. Sculpted at 1/8 scale, standing roughly 22 cm tall on the base, with the sword raised in the classic By-The-Power-Of-Grayskull pose. The sculpt explicitly references the Filmation model rather than the Mattel toy: the proportions are slimmer through the legs, the chest crest is the cartoon’s stylised cross rather than the toy’s harness, and the face captures the slightly squarer Filmation jawline. The base reads HE-MAN in raised lettering on a sculpted stone disc with the Castle Grayskull silhouette etched at the back.
Edition size was capped at 1500 pieces, with each base individually numbered on a foil label affixed to the underside. Original MSRP was $89.99 on the Icon Heroes direct-to-consumer storefront when it shipped in 2018. Retail allocation went to Diamond Previews comic shops at a slightly lower number; the unsold Diamond allocation was clearanced through Big Bad Toy Store in late 2019 at around $55 a piece.
What makes the Icon Heroes He-Man distinctive in the secondary market is the paint. Where Tweeterhead and Pop Culture Shock used near-realistic skin-tone gradients and weathering effects, Icon Heroes painted the piece flat in the Filmation palette: solid skin tone with no shading, solid yellow on the sword crossguard, solid gold on the chest crest. The flat paint reads as a deliberate animation-art callback rather than a compromise. Collectors either love the choice or dislike it; few opinions sit in the middle.
Secondary market pricing has settled around $90 to $130 for a complete in-box example with the COA, which is roughly cover price. The piece is not a price-rocket but it holds value, which is rare for statues in this category. Icon Heroes followed up with matching Skeletor, Battle Cat, and She-Ra pieces, and the four-statue Filmation-style set is the assembled collector’s target.
