Ticket presales for Masters of the Universe opened this morning at the major North American and international chains. AMC, Cinemark, Regal, Cineplex (Canada), Vue, Cineworld, Pathé, and the bulk of independent operators all have June 5 inventory live.
Amazon MGM has confirmed the picture is going wide in 4,200-plus North American screens, with IMAX and Dolby Cinema premium runs at the flagship locations. Sony Pictures Releasing International is handling the rest of the world on or near the same date depending on territory.
What to look for
The IMAX run is the headline format. Travis Knight shot the climactic act with IMAX cameras and the press kit confirms an expanded aspect ratio for those scenes. Dolby Cinema gets the picture in HDR with Atmos and is the play for premium audio without an IMAX nearby. RealD 3D is also confirmed for selected screens.
Special programming
A handful of cinemas are running Masters of the Universe alongside throwback double-features. The Alamo Drafthouse chain has 1987 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe pairings booked for the week of release. Music Box Theatre in Chicago is screening the 1985 Filmation series pilot the night before opening. Toronto’s Royal Cinema has a fan-cast night planned for opening Friday.
