First Look: Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man

April 20, 2026

Amazon MGM released the first official He-Man portrait this morning. Nicholas Galitzine in full Eternian armour, Power Sword raised. The piece dropped on Mattel and Amazon socials within minutes of each other and the internet has not stopped talking about it since.

Amazon MGM and Mattel dropped a coordinated reveal this morning. The first official portrait of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Power Sword raised overhead in the transformation pose every kid who grew up in the 80s knows by heart.

The image was up on the official Masters of the Universe Twitter and Instagram accounts within seconds of the Amazon MGM press release. By mid-morning eastern time it had crossed a hundred thousand reposts on X and was the top trending image on Bluesky.

What the portrait tells us

The armour design is closer to the 1982 toy than to either the cartoon or the 1987 film. The harness colour is the same warm cream that the original action figure wore. The Power Sword silhouette is a faithful read of the Filmation animated version with cleaner edge detail. Galitzine’s hair is dyed the cartoon’s signature blonde. The boots and wrist gauntlets pull from the Mattel-issued style guide from the toy line’s first wave.

What is not in the image is anything that would hint at Skeletor, Teela, or the wider cast. Mattel and Amazon MGM are running this reveal as the He-Man-first moment and rolling the other principals out on their own beats over the weeks ahead.

The arc that gets us here

Galitzine has talked openly in his pre-release interview rounds about the work that went into building He-Man. Months of strength training, six months of sword choreography with the second-unit director, dialect coaching to find the right cadence for the announcement-style line readings the cartoon trafficked in.

“Prince Adam was the hardest part to land. The transformation has to mean something. Otherwise the picture doesn’t work.”

That is Galitzine to GQ in the same press cycle. Whether the picture lands the Adam-to-He-Man arc is the question that will define how this reboot is remembered. The portrait is a strong opening play. Now we wait for June 5.
