Legendary comic book artist Bart Sears has signed on to design the next wave of Mattel’s MOTU Chronicles action figures, the premium character line that launched alongside the 2026 Masters of the Universe film. Sears announced the gig after San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where the first Chronicles reveals drew significant collector interest.
Sears brings decades of experience to the role, having illustrated titles for DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Image, CrossGen, and Valiant. Beyond comics, he has designed characters for established toy lines including G.I. Joe, WWF figures, and X-Men collectibles, making him a natural fit for the intricate sculpt work MOTU Chronicles demands.
The 2027 lineup marks an expansion of the Chronicles line, which premiered at SDCC 2026 with five new character reveals. Sears will be responsible for bringing that same “gritty,” detailed aesthetic to future releases, maintaining the line’s commitment to ultra-detailed sculpting and collector-grade paint applications that distinguish Chronicles from entry-level MOTU product lines.
