One day after arriving on Prime Video, Masters of the Universe has become an instant global streaming phenomenon. The fantasy epic - which struggled in theatrical release - is now the most-watched movie on Prime Video worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.
The film is trending in no fewer than 51 countries, claiming the #1 spot in 25 nations including Australia, Canada, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, where theatrical earnings disappointed, the film already ranks at #2 on the platform and has continued climbing since its July 22 debut.
This reversal of fortune comes after Masters of the Universe finished its theatrical run with $113.6 million worldwide against a reported $170 million budget - a figure that fell well short of expectations. The film required a $340 - $425 million box office run to turn a profit for the studio.
Despite its theatrical underperformance, audiences are embracing the film on streaming. Masters of the Universe holds a respectable 67% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a strong 86% audience score, suggesting the theatrical audience missed out on a film that resonates with viewers at home.
The film’s streaming success comes at an interesting moment, with the MOTU franchise experiencing renewed momentum across multiple entertainment fronts - from Mattel’s expanded toy lines and SDCC 2026 announcements to digital releases and expanded merchandise offerings.
