Mattel has locked in a fan event for its San Diego Comic-Con booth built around the Masters of the Universe movie’s breakout gag figure. The San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog reports the toy maker will host a Skeletor Cosplay Pose-Off at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Booth 2945, open to “all eras and ages of Skeletor,” from the classic blue-skinned original to the movie’s dream-sequence Gym Bro version.
The Gym Bro Skeletor figure itself, first detailed by Mattel Creations in late June, reimagines Skeletor in a purple hoodie and gym shorts with a barbell and dumbbells, based on a mind-invasion scene from the film. It will be sold at the booth through Comic-Con’s Exclusives Portal lottery, and separately through online preorders opening July 23 at 9 a.m. PT, limited to two per customer.
Mattel has not announced further Masters of the Universe programming for its SDCC booth beyond the pose-off and the figure sale, though the company’s full convention schedule typically firms up about two weeks ahead of the show, meaning additional panel or signing details could land in the days around July 9 to 12.
