The original 1987 live-action Masters of the Universe is coming to 4K Ultra HD. Arrow Films has announced Toy Robot Video, a new subsidiary boutique label, and the Cannon Films adaptation starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor is among its launch titles, set for September 15, 2026 in the US and Canada.
The headline feature is a newly unearthed Preview Cut of the film, presented on its own disc alongside the theatrical version. Toy Robot Video describes it as featuring never-before-seen footage, including new and extended scenes and alternate takes. For a film whose longer workprint has been the subject of fan speculation for decades, this is the first official release of an alternate cut.
The 2-disc set also carries a substantial extras package: new interviews with actors Robert Duncan McNeill and Anthony De Longis, a new interview and a new audio commentary with production designer William Stout, an audio commentary with director Gary Goddard, the archival featurette Behind The Legend, trailers, and stills and production design galleries.
“With a resurgent interest in Physical Media, especially amongst younger film fans, Toy Robot Video is intended to be a fun and inclusive label, designed to complement our core Arrow Video brand,” said Toy Robot Video’s Mike Hewitt in the announcement.
The timing lands in the middle of a busy home-media stretch for the franchise: the 2026 reboot hits digital on July 21 with its own disc pre-orders live, and Universal has a 13-disc Filmation complete-series Blu-ray set for August 25. Nearly four decades on, the Lundgren film that flopped in theaters is getting the deluxe collector treatment.
