Nicholas Galitzine told a virtual press conference that playing He-Man resolved years of professional rejection, UPI reported on June 3, two days before Masters of the Universe opens in theaters. The British actor, 31, said he had worked for 13 years to land the lead in a Hollywood blockbuster and got emotional filming the moment Prince Adam raises his sword and says, “By the power of Grayskull, I have the power.”

“I was thinking of every casting director who ever rejected me,” Galitzine said, per UPI. “This is 13 years in the making.” He recounted booking 90-day visas to audition in Los Angeles, sleeping on couches in North Hollywood, and walking past the Chinese Theatre hoping to have a film play there one day. The movie held its premiere at that venue on May 18.

Castmates added their own framing of the ensemble. Camila Mendes, who plays Teela, said the two leads “both have something to learn from each other,” while Idris Elba described his Man-at-Arms character Duncan as, at heart, “a dad” carrying a sense of loss. Morena Baccarin, who plays the Sorceress, said she grew up playing He-Man and She-Ra with her brother and called the role personal. Alison Brie described the Skeletor and Evil-Lyn dynamic as “juicy” and “very complicated.”

The remarks landed as the film, directed by Travis Knight for Amazon MGM Studios, heads into early-access screenings ahead of its wide release on Friday.
