The official Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer for Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe has gone live, and with the first 46 reviews counted the film is holding a 74 percent score. If that mark holds through release, the 2026 adaptation becomes the highest-rated movie in the franchise’s history, ahead of The Secret of the Sword (1985) at 60 percent and well ahead of the 1987 Dolph Lundgren film at 21 percent. The score opened nearer 77 percent earlier in the day and has eased as more reviews posted.
The number lands three days before the June 5 wide release and follows the May 18 world premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre. It does not top the franchise’s television scores, where the original 1980s series sits at 100 percent and Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation carries 95 percent.
Critics remain split on tone. Much of the coverage credits the film for leaning into the nostalgia and fantasy of the 1980s property while debating whether its comedy sits comfortably alongside the more grounded story. Nicholas Galitzine’s performance as Prince Adam and He-Man has drawn consistent praise across the early reviews, and Jared Leto’s Skeletor has been singled out as a talking point.
The reception arrives against box-office tracking in the 25 to 35 million dollar range for the opening weekend on a reported budget near 170 million dollars, with the sixth Scary Movie installment opening the same frame.
