The review embargo on the live-action Masters of the Universe is set to lift on June 2 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, according to the industry tracker @EmbargoLiftsFor on X, as cited by ComingSoon.net. That puts the first wave of full critic reviews three days ahead of the film’s June 5 theatrical opening from Amazon MGM Studios.
The embargo lift marks the next checkpoint after the social-media reaction embargo dropped on May 18, the night of the world premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Those first reactions skewed positive, with praise centered on Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Adam and Jared Leto’s Skeletor, though a minority flagged tonal and pacing issues across the first two acts.
Going into the embargo lift, a Kalshi prediction market tracked by ComingSoon.net had the film projected at a 74.7 percent critics rating as of May 21, just shy of the 75 percent threshold Rotten Tomatoes requires for a Certified Fresh badge. The market has swung between the low 60s and low 80s since betting opened on May 8.
The timing carries weight because earlier box office tracking on the film was described as soft, with awareness rising but interest flat. A strong set of reviews on June 2 could feed word of mouth heading into opening weekend, while a weaker tally would land with only days left before tickets go on sale widely.
