MOTUNIVERSE 2026, billed by organizers as the first dedicated Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power fan convention in Southern California, opens today at the Torrance Marriott Redondo Beach. The two-day event runs May 23 and 24, Memorial Day Weekend, and lands less than two weeks before the Travis Knight live-action Masters of the Universe opens in U.S. theaters on June 5.
Amazon MGM Studios is participating in the convention through a marketing tie-in announced by the show. Ticket holders receive a free 11x17 Masters of the Universe movie mini-poster courtesy of Amazon MGM, and the studio is staging photo ops with lifesize He-Man and Skeletor props on the show floor. The convention is positioned, in the organizers’ words, as a “rally point” between the franchise’s 1982 launch and the upcoming film.
The guest list draws from across the franchise’s 44-year run. Alan Oppenheimer, the original voice of Skeletor and Man-At-Arms, is scheduled to appear alongside Melendy Britt, the voice of She-Ra and Catra. Anthony De Longis, who played Blade in the 1987 Cannon Films Masters of the Universe, joins William Stout, that film’s production designer. Mike Young, the creator of the 2002 MOTU series, Tim Sheridan, writer on Kevin Smith’s Revelation and Revolution for Netflix, original 1982 Mattel packaging artist Rudy Obrero, minicomic illustrator Larry Houston, and Mysteries of Grayskull creator Rebecca Taylor round out the announced lineup.
MOTUNIVERSE was launched by collectors Mike Gordon and Jay Ban, the latter known to fans as Mega Jay Retro, and funded through Kickstarter. The show floor includes a vendor marketplace of vintage and modern collectibles, panels on franchise history and the vintage toy market, and discussions of the upcoming live-action adaptation. Tickets and the full schedule are at motuniversecon.com.
