On the night of Tuesday, May 19, hours after Monday’s TCL Chinese Theatre world premiere, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel ran a large-scale promotional drone show over the Los Angeles area. According to reports, the synchronized fleet formed Castle Grayskull, an Eternia tableau, He-Man raising the Power Sword, Skeletor’s skull face with glowing red eyes, and the line “I HAVE THE POWER” in the sky over the city. Videos and stills hit Instagram, TikTok, and X overnight and through May 20.
Reports connect the display to a new Guinness World Record for the brightest aerial image formed by drones, with Director Travis Knight on hand to receive the certificate. Outlet drone-count figures vary across coverage (estimates range from roughly 1,600 to 10,000), so a single confirmed number is not in hand yet. The campaign was operated by Heads in the Sky, and is part of a wider promotional push that included an earlier drone run aimed at festival traffic near Coachella and Stagecoach in Southern California, where He-Man messaging read “HONK FOR HE-MAN” and Skeletor’s read “SHOULD HAVE LEFT EARLIER.”
The film opens in theaters June 5. Travis Knight directs Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, and a large ensemble including Morena Baccarin, Alison Brie, and Kristen Wiig.
