In a new SFX Magazine interview surfaced by Total Film and Nerdist, Masters of the Universe director Travis Knight confirmed that She-Ra is part of the mythology of his live-action world, even though she is not in the June 5 film. Asked directly about the Princess of Power, Knight said: “I can say very little about She-Ra. For me, She-Ra has always been a big part of the Masters world, and a big part of Adam’s story. In the fullness of time, if we’re lucky to tell more stories in this universe, She-Ra will play a huge part.”
For context, in the original Filmation continuity Adora was Prince Adam’s twin sister, kidnapped as an infant by Hordak and raised on Etheria before breaking free and leading the Great Rebellion. Filmation’s She-Ra: Princess of Power ran adjacent to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe for several years. When Filmation dissolved, the film and TV rights to She-Ra were split from the rest of the MOTU portfolio (Mattel still holds both toy lines), which is why the Netflix She-Ra and the Princesses of Power could not name her famous twin.
Knight’s comments matter because reports last year pointed to a She-Ra live-action series at Prime Video, putting that property under the same Amazon MGM umbrella as the film. Knight noted earlier in the same press cycle that “there are giant scenes in the movie that aren’t there any longer,” suggesting She-Ra material was considered and cut. Whether any of it surfaces in a sequel depends on the June 5 box office, but on the record, Knight has now put a sequel-era She-Ra appearance on the table.
