Paul Dini wrote some of the best Filmation MOTU episodes — Teela’s Quest, Like Father Like Daughter, Prince Adam No More, House of Shokoti, The Dragon’s Gift. He went on to define Batman: The Animated Series with Bruce Timm. His writing voice — patient morality, real character interiors, restraint with the resolution — was unusual for 1980s Saturday-morning animation and is the reason his Filmation scripts continue to land four decades later. Dini’s MOTU work has been periodically revisited; he was an obvious choice to consult on the 2021 Revelation continuation. His script template for serialized children’s animation — let the characters be wrong, let consequences land, end with restoration rather than victory — is the through-line connecting Filmation to Batman to Revelation.
